  4. StatBar is a utility to view free system resources and
  5. drive space, as well as an application launcher. It can
  6. also shutdown, logoff or reboot your PC with a single
  7. mouse click. StatBar is being released as freeware (note
  8. that freeware DOES NOT mean public domain...see the legal
  9. section below for more details).

  11. No registration fee is required, but we'd appreciate
  12. sending us your name, address and e-mail address if you
  13. plan to continue to use this software, as well as the
  14. location you obtained it from. This information is for our
  15. records only and we will NEVER give out or sell the
  16. information, for any reason. If you do wish to send a
  17. donation to us anyway, send what you feel the program is
  18. worth to you. All money will be used to upgrade our
  19. development tools to further enhance StatBar and other
  20. programs we're working on. Make checks or money orders
  21. payable to David M. Fornalsky. Remember, however, that no
  22. registration fee is required. StatBar is FREE.

  25. Installation:
  26.  
  27. StatBar 97 has been tested on Windows 95, but should run
  28. correctly Windows NT 3.51 and Windows NT 4.0. It will not
  29. run on previous versions of Windows, including Win32s, or
  30. on Windows NT 3.5 or earlier.

  32. If you have a previous beta version of StatBar 97
  33. installed on your PC you should uninstall it first.
  34.  
  35. To install StatBar 97, uncompress the zip file that
  36. contains the program and run SETUP.EXE. To uninstall
  37. StatBar 96, go to the Control Panel and select 'Add/Remove
  38. Programs'. From the resulting dialog box select StatBar 96
  39. and click the 'Add/Remove...' button. The software will
  40. automatically be removed.

  43. Description of features:
  44.  
  45. Free Resource Monitors:
  46. StatBar monitors free System, User and GDI resources. It
  47. further monitors the CPU load on Windows 95 PCs.
  48.  
  49. Application Launcher:
  50. The first tab on the StatBar called 'Applications' is the
  51. application launcher. To add an application, click the
  52. 'Add' button and select the program you wish to add. To
  53. move a program up or down in the list, or to change the
  54. name or remove it from the list, click the 'Edit' button.
  55. To launch an application, simply double-click on it's
  56. name.

  58. Drive Monitor:
  59. The second tab contains a list of free space for all the
  60. drives in your system or mapped from a network. To refesh
  61. the list click the 'Update' button. For more information
  62. about a specific drive, double-click on it or select the
  63. 'Info' button.

  65. Dock to the System Tray:
  66. StatBar can be docked to the Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0
  67. system tray, and all of it's features accessed from there.
  68. Simply select the 'Dock to System Tray' in the Options
  69. dialog. When you next minimize StatBar it will appear on
  70. the tray in the Windows taskbar.

  72. Options Dialog:
  73.  * 'Warn on exit' will display a warning before shutting
  74.  down or logging off of Windows, or before rebooting your
  75.  PC. If this box is unchecked, any of the above actions
  76.  will be performed immediately without any warning.
  77.  
  78.  * 'Chromatic status bar colors' will display the free
  79.  resource percentage bars using a smooth color transition
  80.  from green to yellow to red. Unchecked, the status bars
  81.  will be displayed using only the three solid colors,
  82.  green if the resources are good, yellow if they're half
  83.  used or red if they're low.
  84.  
  85.  * Free drive space can be displayed in megabytes or as a
  86.    percentage, depending on the option you choose.

  88.  * Automatic update will update the drive list after a
  89.    number of seconds or minutes that you choose.

  91.  * You can exclude certain types of drives from appearing
  92.    in the drive list, like CD-ROMs or network disks.

  103. Known problems:
  104.  
  105.  * Tooltips appear underneath StatBar when set to 'Always
  106.    On top':
  107.    This is a known issue and will be fixed in a future
  108.    release of StatBar. Current workaround is to uncheck
  109.    'Always on top' in the 'Options' menu.
  110.  
  111.  * Popup menu fails to disappear when canceling a right-
  112.    click on StatBar while in the taskbar:
  113.    This is a known issue and will be fixed in a future
  114.    release of StatBar. Current workaround is to select
  115.    another open explorer window. The popup menu should
  116.    disappear.
  117.  
  118.  * Icons incorrectly displayed in app launcher:
  119.    Your video driver may not be fully Win95 compatible.
  120.    Contact your video board manufacturer for updated Win95
  121.    drivers.
  122.  
  123.  * Icons incorrectly displayed in app launcher after
  124.    adding a new program:
  125.    On rare occasions icons in the application launcher
  126.    have become corrupted after adding a new app. This has
  127.    so far not been consistently reproducible. Current
  128.    workaround is to select any app in the launcher, select
  129.    the 'Edit' button, and in the Edit Program Information
  130.    window select 'Done'. This will refresh the icons.

  140. you're running StatBar 97 on (e.g., Dell model xxx with
  141. 16Mb RAM, Pentium 120MHz), and your operating system
  142. (Win95 or NT and it's version number). Also include a list
  143. of hardware in your PC that you might think is contributing
  144. to the problem. Include steps to reproduce the problem if
  145. possible. Also make sure to include your e-mail address so
  146. we can contact you if necessary.
